Infertility
Infertility is the inability of a couple to produce a child after 12 months of unprotected intercourse. There are various types of infertility:
PRIMARY INFERTILITY:
It is the term used to describe a couple that has never been able to conceive a baby, after at least 1 year of unprotected intercourse.
SECONDARY INFERTILITY:
It describes those couples who have previously been pregnant at least once, but have not been able to achieve another pregnancy.
Infertility is caused due to a wide range of physical and emotional factors. Approximately 30 - 40% of all infertility is due to a "male" factor such as retrograde ejaculation, impotence, hormone deficiency, environmental pollutants, scarring from sexually transmitted disease, or decreased sperm count.
It is really important that we should not discriminate between the male and female child. It should be our first while conceiving a child. We should always take care of this. These technologies are there to help not to kill some in the womb. The couple should seriously pay attention towards this.
A "female" factor – taking birth from sexually transmitted disease or endometriosis, ovulation dysfunction, poor nutrition, hormone imbalance, pelvic infection, tumor, or transport system abnormality from the cervix through the fallopian tubes -- is responsible for 40 - 50% of infertility in couples.
The remaining 10 -30% of infertility cases may be caused by contributing factors from both partners, or no cause can be identified.
It is estimated that couples will not be able to become pregnant, if they don’t attempt it for at least one year. The inability to become pregnant is lead by some emotional reasons also. A range of emotional reactions by either or both members of the couple is the main reasons for this.
Generally it is seen that the couples with at least one baby don’t show these types of symptoms. But the ones without any child tend to suffer with all emotional factors, because a conflict comes in between.
Treatment
Treatment depends on the cause of infertility.
It may involve:
It is really important for the couple to discuss on all treatments. They need to co operate with each other and has to find out a decision which favors both of them. They should always consult their doctor before taking any step.
